How A Delicacy Can Turn Into A Gourmet Food?

The world is shrinking with communication and technology making it easier to cross oceans. Food has always been part of the culture, and the ease of travel has made it simple to understand the culinary expertise of the other side of the continent. Thanks to the social networking sites people can share information about diverse cuisine. It has also raised the interest in tasting these delicacies. Gourmet food is becoming popular with people interested not just in taste but appeal as well. In many cases, the food may be a delicacy at the land of its origin but may be a gourmet in another land.

A simple example of how delicacy changes into gourmet can be seen in the way of eating cheese. Swiss cheese is a delicacy in America while French-Swiss is popular in Europe. Cheese is used in the sandwich in the morning while the same cheese is melted and used as Fondue in the evening. Now this is considered a gourmet dish. For gourmet food time and place is all that matters. Regular food can be turned into gourmet food depending on the place it is served. Another interesting comparison is the Italian Caffee Latte that is a gourmet for Swedes but is a morning coffee for the Italians. Similarly, the Italians will not consider the Swedish black root as gourmet as it is cooked during Marten the Goose annual festival.

Snails are common in most parts of the world, and some places are considered high-class cuisine. It is used as an appetizer in French dish that is normally cooked with butter and garlic, prepared in such a way that toxins are removed. How certain foods are termed as exotic depends on where it is available and how people relate to it. The mushroom called truffle is available across the globe it is called diamond of the kitchen in Europe and Chinese Truffle also is available. The Black Summer Truffle is sold at $670 for a pound.

There is seasonal gourmet. Any food that does not look or taste good cannot be considered a gourmet. Some ingredients are available only during a particular season. For instance, berries are available round the year and can be imported from various places. However, when it comes to created delicious strawberry dessert it is best to choose native strawberries. Now dipping these in the best Swiss Chocolate can make it a gourmet, but when the berry is brought from Greece, it will not get the same status.
